EUROPEAN SELECT TEAM
Each year I put together a select team of high
school players for the area for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to
Europe and play a series of games. We are representing our country and
the way we play basketball, and it is as close as many will come to an Olympic
experience. Please see below for pictures, testimonials and
information. Plans are set for our 2011 trip to Barcelona, Spain. Contact me with any questions.
2010 European Tour: Belgium, Germany & London, England
Our Select Team went 5-0 in August, 2010, winning 3 games over Belgian teams and 2 over German teams. Our margin of victory was 20+ points and we did an excellent job of defending, rebounding and running. Pushing the pace and playing unselfishly made this team a joy to coach.
We had the chance to see some wonderful sites on our trip, and we visited many great cities: - Mechelen, Bruges, Brussels and Gent in Belgium - Dusseldorf, Recklinghausen and Cologne in Germany - London, England
"Thank you so much for the wonderful experience that my son (and the other boys) had. My son is a relatively quiet kid, but he just had an "awesome" time (in his words). The kids seemed to really bond well - both on and off the court. And I could really tell the respect they had for you - both as a person and coach. I really can't say enough good things about the trip and the entire experience. My son has already asked me about next year - so please keep us in mind! Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your summer." - Parent
"Our son had an absolutely fantastic time. It was his first trip to Europe and he enjoyed immensely visiting the cities in Belgium and Germany and loved London. The independence he had off the court with his high school and college teammates was a fun and maturing experience. He especially enjoyed playing for Coach Burke. He was impressed as was I with your basketball knowledge and your ability to relate to him and the other members of the team - both as coach as well as friend. Count us in for next year!" - Parent "Wow, how different the game of basketball is in other countries! This trip was not only an incredible opportunity for me to experience different cultures and how and where they reside; but also a chance to play with really good players who know the game of basketball, respect their fellow teammates and their team as a unit. We were able to adjust to their way of playing and win!! We all said we would win them all, no one was a hotshot - what we all already knew: team work and defense wins games!! This was a goal of mine - to play for Dewey. To be coached by a guy who has such passion for and knowledge of the game I love -priceless! Dewey has supported, encouraged and trained me to be the player I am today. These guys will be my friends for life and Dewey and Coach Jones - you guys were awesome as coaches and leaders...ready for next year?" - Player, Rising Senior
